So I *finally* successfully got connection via a remote computer and now I'm trying to configure it a little more.
I've created a "Normal" share and would now like to change the owner and group to something that'll included additional accounts. At the moment the owner and group is just the account I'm logged on to on my mac mini. When I try to select a different group(one I've created in the groups tab of pref pane) and press update, it has no effect. If I reselect this share on the list of "Normal" shares, it reverts to the old group.
I'm running this on 10.4.10 if it makes any difference.
I was able to get it to work. For those are interested/may have same issue:
1) I was trying to share an external drive. After searching I realized I needed to disable the "Ignore ownership on this volume". That's why group settings kept reverting. To do this just command+i your drive in question.
2) Make sure you enable windows sharing (I was using the smb/cifs portion of this app). I had this enabled but I had forgotten to enable all the accounts! At one point in the process I had the owner working but none of the group accounts were working because I had forgot to turn their access 'on'.
